Meet the Staff of CVM

We are called to be servant-leaders to the Lord’s work through Christian Veterinary Mission as ministry of CRISTA.  We serve to provide leadership with the CVM staff to challenge, empower, and facilitate veterinarians and related professionals to live out their Christian faith through the profession of veterinary medicine.  Kit serves as the CVM President and provides leadership to the CVM board, CVM staff, CVM fieldworkers, and volunteers.  He also serves on the CRISTA Ministry Council.  Kit and Jan serve together to pray for, support, and encourage the CVM family.

Dr. Brad Frye, Program Director

Dr. Brad Frye, Program Director
Dr. Frye serves to provide leadership and direction to the CVM Long Term, Short Term and Goods In Kind Program of CVM.  This includes developing and administering programs of recruitment and mentoring potential candidates, developing personalized training and orientation programs of support and encouragement for Long Term workers serving on the field.  This role is carried out in team ministry with other members of the CVM staff.

Dr. Fred Van Gorkom
The Lord blessed Fred and Vicki with 25 years as CVM fieldworkers in Ethiopia, teaching them many vital and cool lessons about Himself and working in His Kingdom.  Now they use that background and experience to multiply their ministry on a wider scope.  Fred is part of the team to recruit, train, send and mentor long term and short term fieldworkers, especially in Africa.  Fred loves to encourage missions and share what God has done and is still doing.  His responsibilities also include international partners, special projects, fieldworker alumni and donor development.

Dr. Vicki Van Gorkom, CVM Deputation Director
Vicki and Fred raised their children in Ethiopia until June 2008, before following the increasingly urgent call to work in the CVM home office.  Their two eldest, Cori (pre-med) and Jesse (mechanical engineering) are enrolled in John Brown University in Arkasas; their two youngest, Jodi and Aaron attend Kings High School right next to the CVM office, convenient for carpooling and enjoying their teens!  Vicki is involved with all aspects of deputation: check processing, gift receipting, mailing list management, prayer letter production, and the encouragement of prayer & support for fieldworkers.

Dr. Christina Tolman, Student Outreach Director

Dr. Christina Tolman
As the Director of Student Outreach, Dr. Tolman visits students from all 28 US veterinary schools, challengeing and encouraging them to grow in their personal walk with Christ, and sharing about opportunities for ministry through the veterinary profession. Additionally, Christina assists in coordinating short term mission opportunities for veterinary students, and organizes the annual Real Life Real Impact student weekends. Dr Tolman graduated from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and joined the CVM family in 2006.

Dr. Karen Stoufer
Dr. Karen Stoufer and family served as fieldworkers in Nepal for 13 years where they trained village animal health workers, facilitated projects in drinking water, women’s empowerment and literacy, and worked with the local church. Since 2003, she has been the Director of Training based in the Seattle office.  Her passion is to facilitate training related to Christian rural community development, participatory training, raising of missionary kids, and cross-cultural skills so that long-term and short-term fieldworkers can be effective.
