Lauren Spears
Lauren grew up in Louisville, KY. She attended Northern Kentucky University for undergrad and Auburn University in Alabama for veterinary school. After working in Louisville again for three years following vet school, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland to help start a new church in a movie theater. She continued to practice veterinary medicine while assisting the Mosaic Christian Church family in whatever ways she could.
Inspired to Serve in Bolivia
Seven shortterm mission trips to three Latin American countries has given Lauren a taste of the missionary life that she can't, nor does she want to, get out of her mouth. She completed six months of Spanish study in beautiful Cochabamba, Bolivia. Now she works in Santa Cruz with World Concern and a Latin American version of CVM called VetRed. She teaches English classes to veterinarians and veterinary students and works with Bible studies in the vet school. Through this project she hopes to equip and mobilize veterinarians and students to reach out to others in their community and beyond through their profession. This growing network provides educational and spiritual support and encourages the continuation and development of Christ-centered veterinary fellowship throughout Latin America.

2/14/2011Hola hermana, I just want to repeat a quote from Kyle to the church in his message Saturday to the main service and to the Post. "If you are a Christian who is not actively a part of spreading the Gospel to all people, you are living in sin and you need to repent." What an amazing statement! Our church leaders are aiming the church towards Prayer, first and foremost, but also towards sending and going to support the spread of the Kingdom! Praise God! Just know that I love you sister, and am lifting you and your little one up in prayer against the forces of the enemy of our souls. That sounds so melodramatic!!! But true nonetheless! Amor de su hermana, MerrellMerrell Thomas
12/7/2010What an awesome person you are! I know that you will be an awesome mother as well...you do have one of the best role models! Most recently on a trip to New Mexico via El Paso I picked up an unplanned addition to our family. On the drive back to El Paso late one evening driving through a McD's for a late supper there was a little kitten running back and forth between cars, trucks and looking very very scared and lost. Of course, my first concern was that it was going to be run over - so like you would have done - I stopped the car got out and lured the little thing into the rental car with the smell of 100% beef patty. Together we spent the night at the Radisson and slept on a full stomach waiting for our flight back to Louisville. Thank God for 24-hour Wal-Marts and the ability for animals to give love unconditionally and to trust. "El Paso" is a treasure who likes to cuddle each night and accepts the winter in Kentucky without complaints. So, this just goes to show that we don't get to choose who we love or when they will come it to our lives, but rather it is our duty to be accepting without questioning and embrace the oppertunity. Happy Birthday Jesus! Reta and John - and El Paso :-))Reta Underwood

1/8/2010La Bonn Na Nee! (Chippewa for Happy New Year) Happy New Year 2010 to you! What I wouldn't do for 90 degree weather right now with a brisk wind, 5 inches of snow and 15 degrees. It sounds like the kids enjoyed their Christmas party. That is just wonderful. The photos show some very happy and beautiful children. The clinic photos were very interesting as well. It looks like there are a lot of different animals. Do they have cats? I didn't see any in the photos. What about Alpaca or other clothing type animals? It seems that balloon making goes over very good there and its nice to see that the kids can play games outdoors and be entertained and contented with that sort of thing. It makes me wish many of our American children would find enjoyment in the likes of such. Oh well, we are a very spoiled country and often don't realize how good we have it. Keep up the good work and best of learning with the Espanol. Ta Ta, RetaReta and John Underwood
12/6/2009Lauren! You are wonderful. Can you share the website for the Free Hands group of ladies? I'd love to order some of the Christmas stockings. Also, we spent Thanksgiving at Churchill Downs. They had pumpkin pie, Detby pie along with some other sinful goodies. Many blessings are sent your way from lots of unknown folks. Thanks to the Matt Winn dining room and its patorns. No More Heros was in the lead all the way until mid stretch when he took a look at all the people screaming for him - he was 99+ to 1 and would have payed out in spades had he won. He did get around the track like a pro and we are sooo pround of him. Your mom was here the other day - without her buckeyes - however she was wearing her smile as usual and it was great to see her. She is very proud of you and the work that you are doing. LaGrange is a very brisk 35 degrees right now but the sun is shining and there is no wind. Our dog Duke is in renal failure. He had some fluids and is now on an Asian diet for kidney health. We are embracing ancient knowledge in hope that it helps him be more comfortable and willing to eat. So far it seems to be working. Chicken, kidney and shrimp along with green beans, wild rice and black beans. Oh something else you may find interesting - chickens have out run horses in KY. Yup, chickens are now #1 aig product in KY. Something is a foul with that. Have a great December and a very blessed Christmas we will have a toast in your honor. 11/10/2009Greetings from KY! We are having a break in the cold weather with yesterday in the 70's. It is nice to see the photos of you and your new friends. You look good even with those little GI friends reaking havoc with your insides. Yuck, Make sure you drink enough fluids - bottled sounds like the best kind. Pumpkin pie filling was found there? That sounds like a small treasure. We will have pumpkin pie on Turkey Day with a special desert blessing just for you and your work. You'll want to know that we did our part in controlling the pet population and had all of our three kitten 'fixed' a couple of weeks ago and they are all doing great. Your mom and dad are back from Florida and I'm sure they had a great time. Remember that we think of you often and send blessings your way. Reta and familyReta Underwood
