Ghana (GHA13-06) Location: Accra, Ghana (with trip to Kumasii) Dates: June 1-15 (but dates are flexible to fit your schedule) Local Partner: Dr. Andy Quarcoopome and Veterinary schools Vet work: Teach/demonstrate CE for vets in clinical practice or anything you feel comfortable teaching. India (ADDED 9/20/2012) Location: Northwestern India in Kashmir area. May include trips to high altitude meadows of the Himalayas depending on time of year, etc. CVM has three partner-hosts in this area who operate as businesses or non profit organizations which include animal health as a part of their outreach. This is a primarily Muslim area with both settled dairy farmers and nomadic sheep and goat herders. Dates: Spring 2013 and Fall 2013 are most conducive to working with animals. Vet & Ministry Work: Open evangelism is not allowed. Witness is through a respectful and culturally appropriate lifestyle of service to the livestock owners. CVM’s role is to provide short term teams of 1-4 veterinary professionals to assist in the ongoing work there. The volunteer will be matched with the site; dairy practitioners to the dairy work, mixed animal practitioners to the nomads (sheep, goats, horses), etc. Group size: 1-4 vets, 1-2 vet students or vet techs. Net (a Mongolian NGO) Veterinary work: The veterinary CE remote training trips to the countryside need western veterinarians to consult on veterinary cases, to disciple their teammates as they travel in the countryside and to teach a veterinary topic to countryside veterinarians as well as share personal testimony with countryside veterinarians. During the school year there may be additional opportunities to be a guest lecturer at the Mongolian veterinary university or to spend time reviewing lectures and answering questions for veterinary students that are completing a Distance Learning Master’s Degree Program. Mongolia 4: Non veterinary work and ministry in the city Location: Ulaanbaatar and variable rural locations Dates: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Local Partner: CVM veterinary missionaries + V.E.T. Net (a Mongolian NGO) Non-Vet Work: V.E.T. Net is involved in many aspects of training and ministry both in the capital city as well as in the countryside. Opportunities include 1. Claim a County (CAC). Claim a County is an education project to remote counties in Mongolia through V.E.T. Net in partnerships with sponsoring western churches and individuals. Summer programs are implemented from mid-June to mid-August. Spring and fall opportunities include special training for rural teachers, children of all ages, adults and leaders in these communities. V.E.T. Net works in the communities for three years teaching such subjects as Character Training, English, Life Skills and Computer training before moving on to other counties. Western medical doctors and dentists are invited to come share their skills. A small church is the outcome in virtually all of these areas. 2. Watering with the Word (WWW) V.E.T. Net continues to support these counties through the discipleship project called Watering with the Word. These counties are followed up with visits by our V.E.T. ERM, Kigali, Rwanda (RWA13-09) Location: Kigali and Nyamata, Rwanda Dates: September 16 - October 5, 2013 Local Partner: Equipping, Restoring, Multiplying; Emmanuel Sitake Vet Work: Helping with goat distribution, training widows who receive an animal, advising the staff in animal husbandry issues for the project goats and pigs. Ministry Work: Working with widows and orphans. Wood-working, welding, sewing, hand-crafts, hair-cutting and styling and more are all possible to participate in. India 1 (ADDED 2/8/2013) Location: Vijayawada, Andra Pradesh, India (Fly to Hyderabad) Dates: November 2013. Exact dates flexible. Approximately 2-3 weeks. Vet & Ministry Work: This is one of several partnerships where veterinary medical camps are held in conjunction with evangelistic outreaches in rural India. You will spend some nights in a guest house and some staying in primitive villages. Rural camps will treat cattle, water buffalo, goats and sheep. A few dogs or chickens may also be seen. This trip is best suited for a small team of 2-3 experienced veterinarians who can be flexible and creative on the spot. Group size: 2-3 veterinarians Cost: $1,000-1,500 from Bangalore. India 2 (ADDED 9/20/2012) Location: Northwestern India in Kashmir area. May include trips to high altitude meadows of the Himalayas depending on time of year, etc. CVM has three partner-hosts in this area who operate as businesses or non profit organizations which include animal health as a part of their outreach. This is a primarily Muslim area with both settled dairy farmers and nomadic sheep and goat herders. Dates: Spring 2013 and Fall 2013 are most conducive to working with animals. Vet & Ministry Work: Open evangelism is not allowed. Witness is through a respectful and culturally appropriate lifestyle of service to the livestock owners. CVM’s role is to provide short term teams of 1-4 veterinary professionals to assist in the ongoing work there. The volunteer will be matched with the site; dairy practitioners to the dairy work, mixed animal practitioners to the nomads (sheep, goats, horses), etc. Group size: 1-4 vets, 1-2 vet students or vet techs. Maximum=4 participants Cost: Approximately $1250 from Sri Nagar. Status: OPEN This group is contingent upon at least one veterinarian going. Mekelle University, Ethiopia (ETH13-10) Location: Mekelle, Ethiopia Dates: October 1-15, 2013 (Dates flexible, Sept-Dec, and Jan-June) Local Partner: Mekelle University, Dr. Gebrehiwot Tadessa Vet Work, Undergrad: Choose a few topics you'd feel confident to teach. These can include wet labs to demonstrate what you are teaching, or even using powerpoint. Teach while building relationships to share your faith. Vet Work, Graduate Level Masters Programs: Opportunities to teach topics in Veterinary Surgery and Imaging, Zoonoses and Food Safety, and Tropical Veterinary Medicine. Other Ministry Work: Relationship building, being a Christian witness. Encourage the Christian student fellowship and Christian professors on campus. It is very easy to book a historical tour around fascinating sites in the north to see stone Orthodox churches, Queen of Sheba's palace, treasure chambers of the kings of Axum and much more. Net (a Mongolian NGO) Veterinary work: The veterinary CE remote training trips to the countryside need western veterinarians to consult on veterinary cases, to disciple their teammates as they travel in the countryside and to teach a veterinary topic to countryside veterinarians as well as share personal testimony with countryside veterinarians. During the school year there may be additional opportunities to be a guest lecturer at the Mongolian veterinary university or to spend time reviewing lectures and answering questions for veterinary students that are completing a Distance Learning Master’s Degree Program. Net (a Mongolian NGO) Veterinary Work: Veterinary professionals who wish to come and stay in the city can contribute in the following ways: 1. Western veterinarians and veterinary students are needed to help prepare CE curriculum power points and notes. This preparation may be done in the V.E.T. Net office in Ulaanbaatar or out of country. 2. The Distance Learning Master’s Degree Program allows Mongolian veterinarians the ability to earn a Master’s Degree without leaving Mongolia. Foreign veterinarians or junior or senior veterinary students are needed to view distance Master’s training power points with the students, answer questions as well as provide additional information as needed. Foreign veterinarians are also welcome to serve as a guest lecturer for one or more lectures at the Mongolian veterinary school. Any veterinary topic would be acceptable. 3. Veterinarians are needed to help assist with cases and training of Mongolian veterinarians at the large animal clinic outside of the city. These are mostly equine calls with occasional bovine and small ruminant work. 4. Help teach English to V.E.T. Net staff and university English classes held in the V.E.T. Net office. Mongolia 4: Non veterinary work and ministry in the city Location: Ulaanbaatar and variable rural locations Dates: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Local Partner: CVM veterinary missionaries + V.E.T. Net (a Mongolian NGO) Non-Vet Work: V.E.T. Net is involved in many aspects of training and ministry both in the capital city as well as in the countryside. Opportunities include 1. Claim a County (CAC). Claim a County is an education project to remote counties in Mongolia through V.E.T. Net in partnerships with sponsoring western churches and individuals. Summer programs are implemented from mid-June to mid-August. Spring and fall opportunities include special training for rural teachers, children of all ages, adults and leaders in these communities. V.E.T. Net works in the communities for three years teaching such subjects as Character Training, English, Life Skills and Computer training before moving on to other counties. Western medical doctors and dentists are invited to come share their skills. A small church is the outcome in virtually all of these areas. 2. Watering with the Word (WWW) V.E.T. Net continues to support these counties through the discipleship project called Watering with the Word. These counties are followed up with visits by our V.E.T. Net team with western Pastors and Bible teachers. 3. Help teach English to V.E.T. Net staff and university English classes held in the V.E.T. Net office 4. Assist V.E.T. Net’s finance and accounting department 5. Help at the V.E.T. Net Day Care facility. 6. Help with the IT Department. Philippines: Rural Veterinary Training and Ducks Location: Bohol, Philippines Date: October 1-16, 2013 Local Partner: Local Church (San Carlos Evangelical) and Missionary Vet work: Improvements to duck raising as a livlihood and general livestock diesease prevention. This is CVM's FIRST visit to this location and much of the trip will be identifying future potential work and follow up. South Sudan (SDN13-10) (ADDED 3/11/2013) Location: Kapoeta, South Sudan. Fly to Nairobi; next day fly to Kapoeta, South Sudan (note: this area very distant from Darfur and border conflicts) Date: October 19-31, 2013 Local Partner: E3 Partners Ministry working with local pastors planting churches. Dr. Josiah Mandieka of Nairobi will lead Vet team. (www.vetsmission.org) Vet work: Cattle are the primary focus of the Toposa tribe. Treatment of cows and goats in village settings, organize vaccinations, train leaders on animal care. Other ministry work: Work among an unreached people group. Vet care will give access to tribal leaders. Local pastors will plant new churches in areas where we will work. Team will build relationships, share testimonies and Bible stories. Children and women ministry needed. Prayer walking. Group size: 2-4 vets or vet students. Local Sudanese leaders will be added to this team. Other options with the trip: Optional African safari. Todee Mission School, Liberia (LBR13-10) Location: Travel about 30 miles out from Monrovia, Liberia. Near Gobatown. Date: October 16-31 (Dates can be flexible to your schedule.) Local Partner: Presbyterian Todee Mission School Vet work: Advising and working with a herd of pigs, also some goats, rabbits and chickens that support an orphanage. Some who had seen them said they needed vitamins, de-worming and antibiotics. Buy medicine in-country. Train the care-givers in how to care for the animals. Other ministry work: Ministry at a local church or teaching in the school. Teach someone how to drive the school vehicle! Stay in the cottage by the school; eat with the children. Group size: 2-6 vets, 1-2 vet students (3rd or 4th year only). Maximum: 8 participants Other options with the trip: Sharing, teaching or preaching in the local churches on Sundays. Option to stay afterwards for 2 more weeks of additional small animal veterinary work and outreach. Optional African safari afterwards or river rafting in the Nile.
