About Long-Term Missions

CVM is a professional sending agency.  For more than 30 years, CVM has encouraged and sent veterinary professionals and their families throughout the world serving with churches, mission agencies and development organizations.  Veterinarians are uniquely equipped for long-term missions; their veterinary skills help build relationships in which they can share the Gospel as well as help livestock-based cultures better care for their animals and provide for their families.

The CVM long-term mission program is currently supporting 33 missionaries and their famlies in full-time service in 12 countries, including the U.S.  These veterinarians work in their respective communities all over the world educating local communities and spreading the gospel.

CVM has had long-term veterinarians in countries in various regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The length of term varies from two to three years, with the possibility of extending beyond that time. Many long-term veterinarians were first involved in the short-term program.  After seeing the need and the impact they were able to make, they signed up for longer-term assignments.

Positions are identified for recruitment by the physical need for a veterinarian, as well as by the spiritual service that may be required.  Veterinarians chosen to serve determine how their gifts will allow them to serve the Lord and the local body of believers. Veterinary training programs develop through discussion with the local community and partner agency.

Financial support for a long-term position is developed by the veterinarian selected to serve in partnership with the CVM office.  Sources include the veterinarian's church, family, and friends, in conjunction with the donor base of CVM and the CVM network throughout the U.S.  The long-term veterinarian will develop a network of supporters who will pray for the work and support the work with their finances and encouragement while the veterinarian is overseas.  Other positions are funded by institutional grants which are developed by CVM's partner organizations.

Long-Term Missions is an excellent opportunity to use the skills the Lord has blessed you with, to serve His kingdom work as you feel His call leading your life. See what’s open right now – browse our current long-term opportunities around the world.
